Terese and her family are doing much better than they were six months ago. The risk for eviction has been overcome, and there is healthy food on the table.
Terese is a single parent with three children. She is employed full time, and her work income is the family’s only income. When she had to take off work for two weeks to care for her youngest son who was ill, she got behind on her household expenses due to her loss of wages.
She made a payment arrangement with the electric company, but when her summer electric bills became higher than normal, she was unable to keep up with the additional payment plan.
When she received a notice to pay the amount in full or be cut off, Terese contacted her Family Advocate from a partner agency of Upward Transitions. She was referred to us for Homeless Prevention Services.
Terese’s Upward Transitions case manager quickly verified her eligibility for assistance. Having her utilities cut off was a violation of her lease, and the family would be evicted. Upward Transitions assisted her with her electric bill and prevented the eviction which would have left the entire family homeless with nowhere to go.
Her UT case manager also provided the family with some food and referrals to other partner agencies to assist the family in other needs that were keeping them at risk of homelessness and hunger.
At her six-month follow-up, Terese reported to Upward Transitions that she was still employed full-time and she was maintaining her housing with utilities connected.
