June is a single mother working fulltime and raising her four children.  She had reached a breaking point after her ex-boyfriend wrecked her car creating tremendous stress from added expenses to replace the car and obtain new insurance coverage along with legal issues which arose from the accident.

Her Family Advocate at Sunbeam Family Services, where her youngest was enrolled in Early Head Start, referred her to Upward Transitions for assistance with utility bills when the financial burden became overwhelming. Her electric and gas were schedule to be disconnected which would be a violation of her lease and put the family at risk of eviction.

A tearful June met with her Upward Transitions case manager who reviewed her budget and provided guidance on managing her finances through the crisis.

Upward Transitions paid June’s electric and gas bills to ensure the utilities stayed connected and the family remained housed. In addition, the case manager discussed counseling options for June and her children to help deal with the trauma and stress of the situation.

June told her Family Advocate, she was so grateful for the assistance she received and couldn’t believe there was an organization that was so supportive and caring in her family’s time of crisis.

A year and a half later, June and her family are doing well. The children are all in school and thriving. She is able to manage her budget and is very involved with her church and children’s school. The assistance Upward Transitions provided helped restore hope for June and her children.
