Though we haven’t found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, we still feel lucky to be able to help bring people home every day!
Mark your calendars for the Upward Transitions Sports Celebrity Wait Night, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 25 at Hideaway Pizza, located at 901 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City. Scheduled to appear are University of Oklahoma Football legends Rusty Griffis, Scott Hill, Don Key, Charlie Newton, Kelly Phelps and Greg Sellmyer. Also scheduled to appear are Oklahoma State University sports greats Dennis Burbank, Matt Clark and Leroy Combs. And, cheering everyone on, the Oklahoma City Thunder Girls! The celebrity waiters will be working for tips that will go to support Upward Transitions programs that serve the less fortunate in Oklahoma City.
Upward Transitions had a special visitor this month that needed our help. This fuzzy little girl was given to a young homeless couple by another homeless man who said he wasn’t able to take care of her. They said the man was using a belt as a leash for her. Lucky for us, we keep pet food, leashes and collars in our food pantry, all donated by our friends at BKD CPAs and Advisors. Thanks to the great folks at BKD, this little puppy left Upward Transitions with a bag of dog food, a new leash and a new collar. Her new owners want to name her “Beautiful.” We think that fits.
The artwork has been chosen for this year’s American Tourist Event, “A Night Aboard the Orient Express,” set for June 7th at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. For the fifth year, graphic arts students from the OSU Institute of Technology in Okmulgee submitted samples of artwork in the hopes of being chosen as the winning design. The Executive Board of Directors Marketing Committee chose a design by Jordan Coon. Jordan will receive a $100 cash prize and the school’s program will also receive a $100 donation from Upward Transitions.
Will Rogers World Airport is planning a $70 million expansion to the airport terminal. Read about it here. This is the latest in 40 years of changes our Travelers Aid volunteers have seen at the airport. To put the importance of our airport volunteers in perspective, Will Rogers World Airport sees 75 departing flights (22 of them direct flights) and about 12,000 travelers each day.
