Heat Advisory Assistance

Attention:  The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the rest of this week and into next week with temperatures in the upper 90s and 100s.  These temperatures put many of our neighbors without shelter in particular danger of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Please also read the attached and be aware of heat exhaustion and heat stroke symptoms and act quickly if someone is in distress.

If you have concerns about someone’s health, please have them come in somewhere cool and sit to wait for emergency help to arrive. Give them some cool water to sip. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
Signs of Heat Exhaustion include:
• Feeling faint or dizzy
• Excessive sweating
• Cool, pale, clammy skin
• Nausea or vomiting
• Rapid , weak pulse
• Muscle cramps
Please call 9-1-1 if the person is exhibiting the following signs of Heat Stroke:
• Has a throbbing headache
• Is NOT sweating
• Has a body temperature above 103 and red, hot, dry skin
• Is nauseous or vomiting
• Has a rapid, strong pulse
• Loses consciousness

If you exhibit any of these signs or feel too hot or tired, please go into a public place and ask for help.  Have someone call 9-1-1 and ask for cool water to sip. Don’t wait to get help.  It could save your life!
