A Letter From Our CEO, Periann Pulliam

August 22, 2023

Friends,

In preparation for Upward Transitions’ Centennial Celebration in 2025, I have read binders full of historic documents and my sense of pride for this amazing organization has intensified. I am humbled by the number of civic leaders and people from all walks of life who have dedicated their time, skills, and money to build an organization which has served the most vulnerable citizens of Central Oklahoma through recession and depression, social unrest and global wars, pandemics and natural disasters, terrorist attacks, and so much more. I hope you will join us in our mission to prevent generational poverty with your monthly, quarterly, or annual gift.

Through community collaboration, emergency relief, and empowerment, Upward Transitions inspired hope for nearly 4,000 of our neighbors experiencing housing instability last fiscal year, July 1, 2022 through June 30, 2023.

Through the generous support of community focused organizations such as Inasmuch Foundation, the Arnall Community Fund at Oklahoma City Community Foundation, United Way of Central Oklahoma, and many more, Upward Transitions has expanded our capacity to serve those who are experiencing homelessness and at risk of becoming homeless. Last fiscal year, our team of 11 provided more legal documents and state IDs than we have ever provided in our history. These necessary documents removed significant barriers to obtaining employment, securing housing, and accessing critical services.

This year, Upward Transitions will expand our homeless prevention services and help stop evictions for more families who are experiencing a financial crisis. A one-time assistance with rent or utilities can help stabilize housing for a family and avoid the traumatic impact which can have negative, lasting effects on a child’s health, wellbeing, and ability to learn.

As we begin a new fiscal year, we are committed to serving those who are homeless, impoverished, and stranded. Our vision is to end generational poverty in Oklahoma County, and we need your support to offer hope and help in removing barriers to exiting homelessness and keeping families and seniors in their homes. I am asking you to please consider contributing your financial gift to Upward Transitions today. Your gift is crucial in helping us prevent homelessness in our community. Can our community count on your support?

With an abundance of gratitude,

Periann Pulliam, CEO
